Two highly experienced and accomplished administrators - Marina Scott and Maria Ward - have been named as Interim Principals for Maine West High School, succeeding Dr. Audrey Haugan, who announced her retirement two weeks ago.The Maine Township High School District 207 Board of Education on Monday approved the hiring of Scott and Ward, who will begin their work immediately.

Scott and Ward bring to Maine West established records of a student-focused and collaborative approach to instruction, learning and building management - closely aligned with the approach already in place at all three District 207 schools, including Maine West.

Scott served as Libertyville High School Principal from 2009 to 2017, after working one year as  Associate Superintendent in the same district. For the first 25 years of her career, Scott served High School District 211 in numerous capacities, including five years as Principal of Fremd High School, in Palatine, and as an Assistant Principal at both Fremd and Palatine high schools.Since 2011,

Ward has utilized her expertise in assessment literacy to serve as an educational consultant to numerous suburban districts, including District 207. She served as Principal of Downers Grove North High School from 2005 to 2011 and as Principal of Glenbard East High School, in Lombard, from 2001 to 2005.  She began her career as a teacher of English and reading at Rolling Meadows, West Leyden and Glenbard West high schools before serving as English Chair, Foreign Language Chair and Assistant Principal for Instruction at Glenbard East from 1991 through 2001.

“Once we knew of Dr. Haugan’s decision to retire, we immediately reached out to Maria and Marina. Both of these women are highly skilled and accomplished leaders who already have established relationships with District 207. Maria Ward was one of our initial assessment literacy trainers, helping us establish a foundation to be at the forefront of mastery learning which has helped prepare us to be one of the first Districts in Illinois to participate in the state’s competency program. Marina Scott mentored Dr. Ben Collins this year in his first year as the Maine South Principal, helping him have an incredibly successful experience which will help him continue to improve as a leader,” said District 207 Superintendent Dr. Ken Wallace.

“Finding leaders the caliber of Maria Ward and Marina Scott to help lead Maine West this year while we conduct a national search for our next Maine West Principal allows us to continue the positive progress we’ve had at West. Both of these talented women know that we have a lot of forward momentum in our pursuit of providing the very best learning experiences for students, and both found that part of the job incredibly appealing,” Wallace added.
